We think there is a lot to appreciate in the Florida Panhandle!
|The area honors Tristan de
Luna who founded one of the first European settlements in
North America. It was probably the first Spanish
settlement and only missed being the first European
settlement by 559 years (Remember Norse explorer Leif
Erikson and Vinland? Can you guess my
nationality?) This statue is located at
Tristan de Luna park.
Tall ships and historical vessels visit. We have a special relationship with Spain but also honor all of the Five Flags that have flown over our area. Diving is popular here. The University of West Florida is world famous for its underwater archaeology and adventurers regularly dive to the USS Oriskany, an airdraft carrier which was purposely sunk for the sport.

port. This particular ship is a construction
ship and is over 530 feet long and houses 264
And there is so much more to our community. We have great hospitals and literally, life saving doctors. Citizens volunteer for all manner of community programs. World famous entertainment acts stop here. Local musical talent seems endless. We have an excellent ballet, symphony and opera. We are a resort destination for tens of thousands of vacationers annually. The Naval Air Station, and its museum, make us a leader in defense. Since the beginning of military aviation warriors have been trained in and around Pensacola. What's so unique? Everything! This is truly an interesting and wonderful place.
